Ok, I have to write this without sounding like a Dav fanatic! I got to the gig venue 2 hours
before the doors. Said hi to Jo and random technical people, the usual. Then Chris, a
wonderful guy who works for the Roadhouse let me in to watch Easyworld soundcheck. They
looked wonderful and I hoped their actual show would be as good.
Back outside and I ran into Dav who was hanging around near the bands' transit van.
We chatted for about half an hour about various random things, the wonderfulness of chocolate
milkshakes and how Bradford is the City of Culture. They advertise it on buses don't you
know? Dav had a purple box and told me in an, "I'm a top secret agent" stylee voice not to
ask what was in the box. Then he dropped it, spilling its content of "Bleach" singles across
the floor. I helped him pick them up as he turned bright red. Aww!
Then Kevin off the Easyworld board arrived. We chatted some more and Dav went
inside. There was much queue hilarity. Kevin told us that the ITC had banned "Bleach" amid
fears it would cause people to launch themselves off their roofs in an attempt to bite stars.
We spotted someone who's t-shirt said "Hello" and betted that the back read "I'm no-one you'd
want to meet." We were right, woohoo! Then Dav wandered past and over the road to the cult
toys and adult shop. He and some others hung around outside for a while before mysteriously
disappearing. They didn't go back into the Roadhouse. Private showing Mr. Ford?
The venue itself was very small and cosy, accommodating around 300 people. It was
quite empty, maybe 100 people in. Everyone stood around drinking and chatting until the
first band; "The Giant Planets" came onstage. They played a short set of loud thrashing rock
music, which didn't seem to go down all that well with the Easyworld fan base. Maybe Dav's
been taking notes on support acts from the "Young Person's Guide to Being a Rock Star." The
next band were much better though! "The Moonies" played a quite poppy rock mixture and
seemed genuinely pleased to be there. Especially Davy Jones look-a-like, lead singer Steve.
I had the pleasure of interviewing them after their set and they were really lovely lads.
Then Easyworld arrived. They played wonderfully, doing many classic songs such as
"Hundredweight" and "Junkies and Whores" as well as more recent songs like "Everyone Knows"
and some brand new material. Dav seemed more exuberant than normal, pulling me forward and
kissing my hand during "Everyone Knows." Whatever next? He interacted well with the
audience and even Jo made eye contact! Glenn was as enthusiastic as ever, and gave away his
drumsticks at the end of the show. Easyworld are moving on up!
